Torqeedo Electric Outboards
When it comes to electric outboards Torqeedo really are leading the way.
Founded in 2005, Torqeedo specialises in not only highly-efficient electric outboards but also extremely powerful and lightweight lithium batteries.
Torqeedo takes pride in offering outboards that meet the requirements of vessels: extremely lightweight, waterproof (all newer models meeting this standard) and faster that you can paddle while offering a worthwhile range.
Most of Torqeedo's range are now suitable for use in salt water as well as fresh.
The most popular, current outboard from Torqeedo is the Travel 1003; a 3hp electric outboard with intergrated, waterproof battery capable moving a 1.5 ton vessel for over 10.5 hours on single charge. It is also capable of being charged by solar power whilst in use.
Like the 1003, the Ultralight comes with an integrated battery and can be charged using solar energy. The Ultralight is a very small outboard designed to fit on most kayaks using it's unique ball joint. It's classed as a 1hp electric outboard, weighs only 7kg and can run for over 8 hours.
If you need more power you move into the Cruise series. The Cruise 2.0 has two versions; the Cruise 2.0 (with a tiller and not fully submersible) and the Cruise 2.0R (remote throttle and fully submersible). Both versions are 24 volt electric outboards classed as 5 - 6 hp outboards suitable for moving vessels up to 3 tons!
The Cruise 4.0R is a 48 volt electric outboard that is an 8 - 9.9hp electric outboard. This motor really can move along the water. It's fully submersible and suitable for vessels up to 4 tons. This motor has been measured at travelling anywhere from 6 to 11 knots!
The Cruise 2.0 and Cruise 4.0 are also now capable of being installed in pairs; see the Twin Cruise 2.0R and the Twin Cruise 4.0R for more details.
The Cruise models do not come with integrated batteries. Instead you can use traditional lead acid, agm batteries or the amazing Torqeedo Power 26-104. The Power is a 24 volt that is fully submersible and weighs only 20kg! (Yes, the weight is correct.) Better yet, the 26-104 is capable of truly producing 104 Ah whereas lead acids could only produce around 60% of their advertised values.
